Description : Statistical downscaling involves the determination of statistical empirical relationships between large-scale atmospheric information and catchment-scale hydroclimatic variables (Chen, Guo, Xiong, Guo, & Xu, 2010). The selection of inputs/predictors to downscaling models is regarded as an important task in any statistical downscaling exercise (Anandhi, Srinivas, Nanjundiah, & Kumar, 2009). In statistical downscaling, large-scale atmospheric variables influential on the catchment-scale hydroclimatic variable of interest are considered to be the predictors to the downscaling model. The selection of an appropriate set of predictors to a downscaling model enhances its generalization skills as such set of predictors can reliably explain the catchmentscale hydroclimatic variable (Galelli et al., 2014).
